EPDM O-rings can be widely used in applications such as drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, and other oil-free environments. EPDM rubber exhibits superior properties in high temperature resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, with a tensile deformation exceeding 200%. However, it should not come into contact with oils like gasoline, diesel, or hydraulic oil, as exposure to oil substances can cause the O-ring to swell or corrode.

EPDM rubber is a copolymer of ethylene, propylene, and non-conjugated diene hydrocarbons. The main polymer chains of EPDM are fully saturated, providing resistance to heat, light, oxygen, and especially ozone. Characteristics of EPDM O-rings include exceptional oxidation, ozone resistance, and corrosion resistance, excellent aging resistance, elasticity, compression set resistance, low density, and high fillability.

HAISUN: Exploring the Performance of EPDM O-Rings

When it comes to chemical acid and alkali resistance, fluororubber or EPDM O-rings are typically used. Fluororubber offers broader chemical resistance and higher temperature resistance, up to 240 degrees, compared to EPDM O-rings which can withstand temperatures up to 150 degrees. Fluororubber is also resistant to oil-based media, unlike EPDM rubber. EPDM rubber's advantage lies in its lower cost, making it common in wastewater treatment and other water processing applications.

EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is commonly black but can be produced in various colors upon request. Its main chain is a fully saturated straight-chain structure without double bonds, allowing for sulfur vulcanization. EPDM rubber boasts excellent resistance to aging, ozone, weather, heat (suitable for prolonged use at 120°C), and chemicals (alcohols, acids, strong bases, oxidants), but is susceptible to erosion by aliphatic and aromatic solvents.

EPDM rubber, with its low density and high fillability, lacks self-adhesiveness and cohesiveness. Notably, it exhibits outstanding steam resistance, making it suitable for steam-resistant seals and other products. EPDM rubber finds applications in components for washing machines, televisions, door and window seals, as well as in the production of various composite profile rubber strips.

The initial deformation (interference fit) of acid-resistant and alkali-resistant O-rings in grooves is crucial for their sealing capabilities, ensuring initial sealing contact, compensating for product tolerances, maintaining friction, accommodating compression set, and compensating for wear.

These are the physical characteristics of EPDM O-rings, emphasizing their acid and alkali resistance properties.
