A pneumatic seal is a dynamic seal that contains a medium, typically compressed air, within a pneumatic system, such as a cylinder, and prevents its escape while allowing for the motion of parts like pistons and rods. Unlike hydraulic seals, pneumatic seals are designed for low-pressure applications, often at high operating speeds and with minimal lubrication. They are available in various forms, including piston seals, rod seals, and wiper seals.

Pneumatic seals are made from various advanced materials, selected for their ability to withstand the conditions of the application: 

Polyurethane: Offers good wear resistance.

Nitrile (NBR): A common material for many applications.

Fluorocarbon (FKM/FPM/Viton®): Suitable for higher temperatures.

PTFE: Known for its low friction and chemical resistance.

Silicone: Used for a broad range of operating temperatures.
