Fluoroelastomer seals are widely used in industries such as automotive and aerospace due to their excellent flame-retardant properties. Even at high temperatures, fluoroelastomer products maintain superior compression set performance.
Developed in 1957 to meet the high-performance sealing demands of the aerospace industry, fluoroelastomers have since found applications in automotive and chemical industries. Over 40 years of use have demonstrated their outstanding heat and corrosion resistance capabilities. Some key features of sulfur-cured fluoroelastomers include:
1. Fluoroelastomers can operate at high temperatures, offering better physical and mechanical properties than most other elastomers. They exhibit excellent resistance to oil and chemicals, even after aging at temperatures like 204°C or intermittently at 260°C.
2. Fluoroelastomers can be used dynamically at temperatures as low as -18 to -23°C and statically at temperatures as low as -54°C, with satisfactory performance even near absolute zero.
3. Fluoroelastomers outperform other elastomers in resistance to liquids and chemical media, showing excellent resistance to oil, aviation fuel, lubricants, and most mineral oils. They have low permeability to most substances and excel in resisting oxidation and automotive fuel permeation.
4. Even under high-temperature conditions, fluoroelastomers maintain superior compression set performance.
5. They exhibit outstanding resistance to atmospheric, light, and oxidative aging, good resistance to molds and fungi, and excellent electrical properties at low pressure and frequency. Compared to non-fluoroelastomers, they have inherent flame-retardant properties.
